ER-4 isolation earphones are Etymotic Research's greatest achievement. Even with all the newcomers, these extraordinary single driver earphones let you hear ALL the music, cleanly and clearly, without blasting out your ear drums. Whether your taste in music runs to classical, pop, jazz, rock, country, rap, or anything in between, the ER-4 earphones let you check out from the noise of the world and hear your music the way it was meant to be heard.
The original ER-4S model sets the world standard for fine quality listening for a single driver earphone. If you plan to use your phones primarily with your home stereo or with a portable amplifier when traveling, this is the model we recommend.
The ER4P model has enhanced bass and greater sensitivity making these phones the best choice for use with your iPod, CD or MP3 player. With ER4P phones, your portable player will amaze you with its ability to produce clear, clean tones and solid bass. If you want the original sound of the ER-4S, but need the portability of the ER-4P, get the optional 4P to 4S adapter cable. (See Etymotic Accessories below.)
The ER4B model is for listening to binaural recordings. If this term is new to you, your best choice will be the ER4S or ER4P.

We recommend these ER4S phones for use with your home Hi-Fi system, or with a portable headphone amplifier. Most portable players do not have enough power to drive the ER4S phones without an amplifer, so please choose the ER4P phones for use with most portable players including CD players, iPods, and other MP3 players. If you want the ER4S sound from your ipod without adding a portable amplifier, add the optional 4P to 4S adapter cable to a set of ER4P phones.
